Phyllostachys nigra - Black Bamboo

Description

Phyllostachys nigra is a running bamboo that is native to Eastern and Central China. Black Bamboo has gorgeous jet black canes, the canes first emerge green in the Spring and will deepen to black after 2-3 years. This bamboo will grow to a height of 20-35 feet or more and can spread through underground rhizomes, although not as aggressively as Golden Bamboo, but it is still best to contain it with an underground barrier. This is a great plant for a tropical look in the landscape and also works great in containers.
