Description Pennisetum spp. are tuft-forming plants usually have leaf blades that are flat. These grasses are usually grown for their flower clusters (plumes) that appear in summer to fall and can be used in flower arrangements both fresh and dried. Most species are very frost hardy. Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Hameln' has an upright mounding growth habit and greenish white flowers mature to creamy tan. Dwarf Fountain Grass can reach 2-3 feet in height with a 1-2 foot spread at maturity. This grass is ideal for locations where larger grasses are not desired such as in a mixed perennial or shrub bed.
