| Berlandiera lyrata
|
Description Berlandiera lyrata is a drought tolerant West Texas native, also native to other areas of the US and some of Mexico. This plant was first documented and collected by Jean-Louis Berlandier (1805-1851) in Northern Mexico. Chocolate Flower has 2" yellow daisy-like flowers with maroon centers that are chocolate scented and can really fill the air with aroma on a warm day. Mmm, hot brownies..digressing!!! If the plant is not in flower not to worry the fuzzy foliage has a chocolate scent as well! This plant is also know as Green Eyes because the flowers look green eyes before rays on the flowers open. Chocolate Flower is tolerant of limestone soils and does not seem to attract deer in most landscapes but does a wonderful job of attracting bees and butterflies into the garden! Hardiness: USDA Zones
