Muhlenbergia lindheimeri is a Texas Native grass that grows around streams in the Edward’s Plateau area in the warm season months. Lindheimer’s Muhly has an upright growth habit and blue/green foliage. This grass can get up to 4-5′ in height. In the fall this grass will bloom, the flowers are at first pink-tinted then later fade to tan. A great choice for the landscape, bringing contrast with the upright foliage and also this grass is non-invasive. Best for dry sites but Big Muhly can tolerate some wet conditions if the soil is well drained. This grass is a good choice for calcareous soils and is often used as a replacement for Pampas Grass in the Austin and San Antonio areas. Muhlenbergia lindheimeri is part of our Plants For Texas® Program, meaning it was Texas Grown, Tested in Texas to perform outstanding for Texas Gardens.
