Chamaerops humilis ‘Mediterranean Fan Palm’

Chamaerops humilis is a clump forming, shrubby palm that is grown for its evergreen foliage. This Palm originates around the hot dry areas of the Mediterranean Sea Basin. The leaves are fan shaped, bluish or grey-green and can reach 24-48″ long, the stalks bearing short sharp teeth. Mediterranean Fan Palm has become more popular recently because of it’s higher cold tolerance compared to that of more tropical species. Chamaerops humilis has a slow growth rate and can reach 15′ tall and have clumps up to 15′ wide at maturity. This Palm is tolerant of poor soils and of drought conditions.
