Agave americana ‘Century Plant ‘

Agave americana is a monocarpic (dies after blooming) succulent that forms a basal rosette of thick spiny grey-green leaves, often 6′ long. The flower stalk is branched and can reach 20′-40′ tall with yellow green flowers. Century Plant is known as such because it is thought they only bloom once a century then die. Really they can bloom much faster, 10 years in warm climates to 60 years in cooler climates, only the Mother plant will die leaving the many suckers or “pups” to flourish.
